If you're looking for fun home decor, Makers Gonna Learn is full of options. We used scrap pieces of vinyl to bring this multi-layered project to life. This file is from the 2019 Summer Collection and it's too cute for words. This project would be great in a nursery, as well as anywhere else in your home. Adding the simple nail art element really takes this project up a notch too.

  • Cricut Maker or Other Die Cutting Machine
  • Yellow and Gray Vinyl
  • Transfer Tape
  • Weeding Tools
  • Measuring Tape
  • White Washed Wood Plaque
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Yellow Embroidery Thread

How to Make This Project

  1. Measure your plaque and size your file in Design Space or the software of your machine to fit well onto it. Be sure to make it small enough so you can create your nail art sun on the bottom of the plaque!
  2. Load in your first mat, set your material, and let your machine cut.
  3. Repeat with your second mat.
  4. Once all your colors are cut weed your images and apply transfer tape to them each.
  5. Wipe down your plaque with rubbing alcohol if you would like, then carefully position and apply your first layer of vinyl to it.
  6. Burnish all the vinyl down well, then slowly peel the transfer tape straight back.
  7. Repeat with the following layers.
  8. Once you're finished with vinyl, go over the bottom of your plaque and draw pencil dots where you want to add nails.
  9. Carefully hammer nails in all of the dots you created, to create a half sun shape.
  10. Use embroidery thread to wrap around all of the nails in a unique pattern, tieing to one nail to secure.
